Open since 1979, the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary has been a safe haven for animals of all types for more than 40 years. Today, Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary’s impassioned team is devoted to providing a safe-haven for animals of all types while providing educational and cultural experiences for all visitors. The North Las Vegas historic ranchlands the animal sanctuary lies on is a proud home to more than 500 exotic birds and domestic farm animals who were injured, or whose owners can no longer care for them.

Situated in North Las Vegas, what would later become one of the Las Vegas valley’s most well known and respected animal refuges opened when the Gilcrease family purchased 1,500 acres of land. Over the decades, the Gilcrease family developed a ranching operation that included livestock, a pasture with various crops, and several large orchards. Interestingly enough, the Gilcrease family provided tons of logistical resources to the military and local businesses, which led to the early growth of this mega metro area we know today. 

Aside from providing a safe haven to animals of all types Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary is devoted to providing quality care to animals in need while providing an ever-expanding education and recreational activities for the public. When visiting Gilcrease today, plan to encounter a diverse group of creatures, ranging from hundreds exotic birds of all kinds, reptiles like the desert tortoise, barnyard faves like pigs, goats and donkeys, and beyond.

Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary Tours & Experiences

Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary offers an array of tours and experiences including a Guided Group Tour through the ranch grounds, along with more animal and activity specific tours like Tour ‘n’ Tales, Tour ‘n’ Toys, and Tour ‘n’ Volunteer. Each tour ranges in price, and lasts between 1 and 2 hours. The animal sanctuary also hosts a handful of annual events throughout the year.
