The wickedly fascinating Reno Tahoe Open (now the Barracuda Championship) is among us again! Having attended this super cool tourney or not, you know you’ll be served up a full day of jaw-dropping athleticism and delicious sunny days Nevada is known for. What you might not be aware of are all the fabulous stops along the way. To maximize your time in the Biggest Little City, take a few minutes while coming and going…you will be happy you did.
Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey
Before facing a full day on the green what’s the best thing to get under you belt? A maddeningly delicious breakfast sandwich, that’s what. And where do you go to get the grand poobah of breakfast sandwiches? Truckee Bagel my friends. With daily made fresh NY Style bagels, any fresh topping fathomable, and a bevy of flavors of savory homemade cream cheese, this ‘Mom and Pop Shop’ will effortlessly slide into first place of all the bagel shops you’ve ever been to. Seriously. After being a staple among locals for the past 20 years, it’s easy to see they’re doing something right! Located in the Raley’s center at Galena Junction, this worthwhile pit stop is definitely en route to Montreaux. Whether you have time to dine with the locals, or take your order to go to enjoy on shuttle ride up to the green, you must, without hesitation make this a place to check out! [Local’s hint: order the Pacific Sunrise! Ah-maz-ing.]
A Dose of Retail Therapy
After spending an afternoon watching countless tee offs, what do you need to prepare yourself for a fun night in downtown Reno? In my experience, nothing revives me better than a good solid retail fix and some refreshing libations. While driving back down the hill, pop over to The Summit, where ladies can get their shop on and feel like a new woman with a restorative blowout at the zen-like Reno Blow Dry Bar. And gents, we haven’t forgotten about you…while your hot mamas are pampering themselves, be sure to check out some awesome retailers like Patrick James or Orvis, and if the RTO has tantalized you like we knew it would, you can bust out your own golfing skills on the putting green, just outside the Apple store. If shopping just isn’t your scene, cruise just up the street to Bully’s Sports Bar while you wait for your lady friend. I can promise you, it is here that you will find the best wings in the area!
A Night on the Town
Now that you’re looking fancy and feeling fresh, head toward the light(s) [that is, the glimmering variety of downtown Reno] and brace yourself for an evening in decadence. First, slip your name on the reservation list for Campo, and while you mentally prepare yourself for one of the best meals you’ll ever have, hop across the river and enjoy one of Reno’s more relaxing happy hours at the Wild River Grille, kitty corner across the Truckee. Bordering these enchanting rapids, it’s here where you’ll find the perfect combination of exciting and relaxing…Wild River Grille’s lively outdoor patio is sure to set the tone for the evening. After you’ve quenched your thirst and realigned your chi, swing over to Campo, where you can start to absorb why Esquire rated it one of the best new restaurants…nationwide. Get that dirt off your shoulder, Reno.
Late Night Stroll
If you have an ounce of energy left after your action packed day, take advantage of Reno’s stunning Riverwalk District that Campo and Wild River Grille are a part of. If you’re looking for a fun bar, consider that checked off with a nightcap at Old Bridge Pub or the Sierra Tap House. If you’re craving culture, be sure to swing by Wingfield Park’s outdoor amphitheater where you might luck out with an Artown Event. And if you’ve got a hankering for a good old-fashioned romantic stroll, we don’t have to create much ambience, you’ll already get just that when spending time in this super cool spot.
