ArtCar Fest, an event celebrating street-legal vehicles that have been transformed into works of art, is set for July 20-21 in Reno.

The festival, now in its 16th year, will be in Reno for the first time.

“ArtCars are no stranger to Reno, however,” Philo Northup, ArtCar Fest co-founder said in an email. “They have visited regularly for years on the way to Burning Man.”

Another factor that brought ArtCar Fest to Reno: the National Automobile Museum exhibit Mutant Rides, which explores the history of ArtCars at Burning Man, a festival held annually in Nevada’s Black Rock Playa. Harrod Blank, ArtCar Fest co-founder, curated the Mutant Rides exhibit, which closes July 25.

ArtCar Fest activities include a closing night party for the Mutant Rides exhibit July 20 at the Nevada Automobile Museum and a screening of “Automorphosis,” a documentary about ArtCars, July 21 at the Nevada Museum of Art.

For information about staying in Reno for this event, see the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority.
