Basque art exhibit opens in Reno with reception Friday, Jan. 20

The Nevada Historical Society will host a reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at 1650 N. Virginia St. in Reno to open its Basque Aspen Tree Art Exhibition. The art was created by people who came from the Basque country (a region straddling Spain and France) and worked herding livestock in the Sierra Nevada. A wave of Basque immigration to the area occurred in the late 1800s and early 1900s, according to the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada Reno.

The exhibit will be on display through April 14.

For more information, call the Historical Society at 775-688-1190, ext. 0.
