Cortina Ristorante and Bar at Summit Sierra

If you spent the day shopping at the Summit or having fun in the South Reno area and are now hungry, try the Italian restaurant Cortina Ristorante and Bar located in the Summit Sierra Mall area. You won't be disappointed.

As a surprise for a special occasion, my friend decided to take me to Cortina. The outside didn't look all that fancy, but don't let looks deceive you. I was pleased the moment we stepped through the door.

When you walk through the door, there is a bar immediately to your left. It's very nice if there is a waiting list. We had reservations for 6 p.m. but there weren't very many people and we were seated immediately.

The waiter was prompt in asking what we wanted to drink. He was a kind, gentle older man who had a foreign accent and acted as though he genuinely cared about our experience. When he brought us our drinks, he explained to us (very proficiently, I may add) the kitchen specials, along with their prices. He helped us with recommendations then gave us a few minutes to decide what we wanted to eat.

When it came to the menu, it made us feel as if we were in a small part of Italy. The names of the food were all in Italian but there was an English description below it. The prices started around $14 for the entrees and I tell you, it was well worth it. My friend ordered the special pizza, which had an assortment of meats, veggies and cheeses on it. I ordered the Fusilli Alla Contadina, which was pasta, sundried tomatoes, chicken and broccoli in a sauce.

As we waited for our food, our waiter brought us bread and oil and vinegar to calm our hunger. Within 15 minutes, our food was brought out to us.

For about $14, there was enough food to last us through two meals. We quickly found out that our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. Even my friend, who was a guy, couldn't finish his meal.

The dessert menu was also something to die for. For about $7-8, you could order pumpkin cheesecake and other heavenly desserts that would melt in your mouth. Unfortunately, we were so full, we declined dessert. About three minutes after leaving the restaurant, we regretted not asking for a dessert to go.

The bill came up to a very reasonable price for the food we got. The restaurant had a classy atmosphere but as long as you dress casually but nice, you will fit right in. Cortina Ristorante and Bar is definitely one place to check out after a nice outing in South Reno.
