Fourth of July in Reno-Tahoe
The Fourth of July holiday is filled with day and evening events that can assure that family and friends have a great time. Whether you are in Reno, Carson City, Lake Tahoe or Virginia City, each city has a unique way of celebrating the holiday.
Reno will be holding a free Fourth of July parade. The parade will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and will begin on Virginia Street, starting at Court, and will end at the corner of Fifth and Virginia streets.
Sparks will be holding their annual Star-spangled Sparks event beginning at 6 a.m. and going until 3 p.m. at the Sparks Marina. There will be free tethered hot air balloon rides, a pancake breakfast put on by the Kiwanis Club of North Valleys, Reno, boat races, a Sparks Idol song and dance competition and other events. From there, the celebration will move to Victorian Square, Sparks, where activities will continue until the fireworks show.
For those in the Carson City area, Mills Park will have carnival rides, food, arts and craft booths set up and more activities for the family to enjoy.
For those who want to head out of the cities, Lake Tahoe is a great outing to take the family. You can enjoy a nice BBQ (no charcoal BBQs allowed), get a tan on the beach and cool down by wading in the lake.
People who want a more rustic, country experience, head to Virginia City. Between historic attractions and browsing the shops, you can enjoy small town life and learn a little more about Nevada's history at the same time.
Fireworks are usually the highlight of the Fourth of July holiday and when it comes to the fireworks show, families have plenty of choices of where to go. Lake Tahoe will have fireworks shows at: King's Beach, Squaw Valley, Tahoe City, Truckee at Donner Lake, Incline Village, the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe.
Called the “Star Spangled Fourth – Lights on the Lake” the fireworks show at South Lake Tahoe in known for being one of the “largest synchronized fireworks displays west of the Mississippi.”
Fireworks can also be seen at Rancho San Rafael in Reno, Victorian Square in Sparks, Virginia City and Mills Park, located in Carson City.
The fireworks show is expected to begin about 9:30 p.m. when the sky darkens enough.
