NATIVE AMERICAN DAY
Native American Day will be celebrated on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Lost City Museum in Overton. The festivities are planned for 9:00am to 3:00pm that day and is free to all visitors.
This exciting day will feature a variety of entertainment, including Native American and folklorico dancing. Local Native Americans will be on hand demonstrating many of their native crafts. A pottery class will take place in the morning. There will be a special guest speaker in the afternoon. Delicious food will be available for sale.
The Lost City Museum was built in 1935 as a result of the Hoover Dam construction and the need to relocate the nearby Pueblo Grande de Nevada. Because of the waters that were to fill Lake Mead, the many valuable artifacts from the pueblo had to be moved in order to be saved. They went to the Lost City Museum, one of the six Nevada State Museums funded by the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs.
While attending the festival, one can visit the museum and a reconstructed Anasazi site which was built in the middle of the museum. Come out and enjoy this fun- filled and educational event.
