Nevada Magazine celebrates Bonanza’s 50th anniversary

Nevada Magazine has honored the popular television show, “Bonanza,” by putting its four stars—Dan Blocker, Michael Landon, Lorne Greene, and Pernell Roberts—on the cover of the new July/August edition. It's the fourth time the magazine has put “Bonanza” on the cover.

“Although the show ended more than 35 years ago and the popular tourist attraction, the Ponderosa Ranch, closed in 2004, 'Bonanza' has held an enduring place in the hearts and minds of many Nevadans and Nevada lovers,” says editor Matthew B. Brown.

“Bonanza,” which also appeared on Nevada Magazine covers in 1966, 1971, and 1993, celebrates its 50th anniversary at the Bonanza Friendship Convention at South Lake Tahoe, September 10-14. Nevada Magazine will operate a booth on September 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Horizon Casino Resort and will be selling all four “Bonanza” issues.

The current issue features a story loaded with exclusive “Bonanza” photos and information about the convention. Single issues are available at most Nevada newsstands, or you can purchase a box of 50 for $200 from Nevada Magazine. Contact Brown at 775-687-0602 if interested in a bulk purchase.

The feature story explores the state of the Nevada ranching industry, and the magazine unveils its 12th annual Best of Nevada winners. Readers vote for their Nevada favorites annually on nevadamagazine.com.

The magazine's Tour Around Nevada campaign continues with Tonopah. On Saturday, August 8, in the Tonopah Convention Center, Nevada Magazine staff will present a Tour Around Nevada plaque to town officials and greet residents during the Tonopah Boomtown History Event. The towns covered are determined by reader vote.

The issue also covers Southern Nevada spas, the Governor's Mansion's centennial celebration, backpacking on Nevada's three crest trails, Lake Tahoe restaurants with great views, and Alice Ramsey—the first woman to drive a car across the United States. Reno’s National Automobile Museum will celebrate Ramsey on July 6 at 6:30 p.m. Those who attend receive a free July/August issue of Nevada Magazine.

Don’t forget, the magazine's new online Events & Shows makes it easy to plan your next Nevada vacation.
