Off-road Silver State Showdown comes to brand-new racetrack in northern Nevada Aug. 25 and 26

Top off-road racers will be in northern Nevada for the inaugural Toyota Silver State Showdown Aug. 25-26 at the new Wild West Motorsports Park east of Sparks. (At left, competing cars in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series are seen in this publicity photo.)

Race fans can watch the qualifying rounds Aug. 24 for free, but they must have a ticket. Free tickets are available at Reno and Sparks businesses including Burger me in Reno, the Outlets at Legends, O’Reilly Auto Parts and the National Automobile Museum. Those who pick up free tickets can use them to get a $5 discount on Aug. 25 and 26.

Tickets for Aug. 25 and 26 cost $30 for an adult one-day pass, and $50 for a weekend pass.

The Silver State Showdown — officially the Toyota Silver State Showdown, Presented by Fox Shox — is part of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, a national racing tour drawing such competitors as seven-time Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath, Freestyle MX star Brian Deegan of Metal Mulisha and Baja Off Road legend Rob MacCachren.

The Silver State Showdown will be rounds 11 and 12 of the Lucas Oil series. Television coverage of the event will air on CBS, NBC Sports, SPEED, CBS Sports Spectacular and MAVTV, according event publicists.

Races will take place at the new Wild West Motorsports Park east of Sparks at the Mustang exit (Exit 23) off Interstate 80. The short track includes a 4,500-seat grandstand built by Q&D Construction in Sparks and Lucas Oil.

“The high-banking turns carved into the hillside are outrageous,” Alex Striler, director of sales and marketing for Lucas Oil, said. “Combined with huge table-tops, an insane rhythm section and a long “ski jump,” this track is unlike anything anyone has ever seen.”

The plan is to have the track fully operational on a daily basis next season, with open track days, driving schools, private track days and other events, according to event publicists.

For tickets to the Silver State showdown, visit the ticket section on the Lucas Oil website, http://www.showclix.com/events/255.
