Reno Jazz Festival to hit UNR campus April 24-26

The Reno Jazz Festival has been going on for close to 50 years, and the 2008 event promises to continue the great tradition that precedes it.

Held on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, a school that in that 50 years has seen an incredible amount of growth itself, the Reno Jazz Festival attracted more than 9,000 participants and guests in 2007, and hopes to continue to see an upswing in visitors this year.

The three-day event will play host to several concerts, including Lee Konitz & the Collective and the Roy Haynes Quartet. Additionally, there will be an after-hours jam session at Red’s Little Waldorf Saloon, a local restaurant and tavern that regularly plays host to musical entertainment, and is located just across the street from the campus.

As always, the festival will have competitions and workshops so musicians can hone skills and receive valuable critique of their craft.

Tickets are on sale and range from $20-$24 dollars for general admission, depending on the event, and there are discounts for students and seniors. Festival passes are also available. Check the website for more details.
