Concerts, art exhibits, theater performances and other events — many of them free — are scheduled as part of the Artown festival, July 1-30 at venues throughout Reno, Sparks, South Lake Tahoe and Virginia City. (At left, Mickey Hart is set to perform a free show July 1 at Wingfield Park.)

Mickey Hart, former member of the Grateful Dead, kicks off Artown with a free performance at 7:30 p.m. July 1 at Wingfield Park, First Street and Arlington Avenue in Reno. The show, part of Hart’s Mysterium Tremendum tour, will include new material as well as Grateful Dead songs.

Also scheduled is the Preservation Hall Jazz Band July 15 at the Grand Sierra Resort (tickets cost $30, $45 and $60) and the World Music Series, free concerts at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday in Wingfield Park.

The festival, now in its 16th year, offers nearly 500 events — 359 stand-alone events, 102 workshops and 33 ongoing exhibits. Visit the Artown online calendar for the full list.
