If you haven’t had a chance to off-road on the Shoshone OHV Trail System, about 25 miles south of Battle Mountain, you can see what you’re missing at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgNyihZgV7U.
The 60-mile trail system offers a remote experience with outstanding views of surrounding mountains, and another 30 miles to 60 miles of trails are being built, according to Don Vetter of Vetter PR, Inc. The trail system passes through several high-desert ecosystems and climbs to 8,000 feet.
For information on the OHV equipment requirements, the terrain and more, see The Shoshone OHV Trail System 2011 Interim Map.
Brochures and maps of the trail system are available at the Bureau of Land Management office, 50 Bastian Road in Battle Mountain and at the Battle Mountain Civic Center, 625 S. Broad St. in Battle Mountain.
For information on staying in Battle Mountain, see the Lander County Convention & Tourism Authority.
