The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority on March 12 launched a $1.6 million marketing campaign to drive northern California residents to the area. The “What’s Your Passion?” campaign urges people to visit Reno-Tahoe to reconnect with the sports and activities they love. Chris Baum, RSCVA president and CEO, cited fly fishing, whitewater kayaking and spa visits as examples of the many activities offered in Reno-Tahoe.

“We’re no longer a gambling destination, we’re a four-season resort destination,” Baum said.

Baum added that while gaming remains an important component of Reno-Tahoe tourism, gaming also is being offered in more areas of the country. To remain competitive, Baum said Reno-Tahoe must “sweeten the pot.”

The “What’s Your Passion?” campaign includes billboards, radio spots, print ads, online banner ads and what Baum described as “a local presence” at RSCVA facilities such as the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The RSCVA website also has a link to ‘passion packages’ that feature dining, entertainment, golf, spa, ski and other.

The RSCVA also has four partners in the campaign: John Ascuaga’s Nugget, Circus Circus Reno, Peppermill Resort Casino Reno and Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.
