Gardnerville lies in the heart of Carson Valley, surrounded by peaceful green fields with views of the Sierra Nevada to the west and the Pine Nut range to the east. The inviting downtown is designed for strolling, with shady trees, old-fashioned street lamps and carefully-tended flowers in the warmer months. Century-old brick buildings house shops, saloons and restaurants to tempt passersby, and residents and visitors alike find it hard to resist the town’s Basque restaurants or the gift shops with their windows of pottery, quilts and glass art. Gardnerville also has quite a reputation for antiques and collectibles.
The town enjoys its fair share of events too, like the annual outdoor movies hosted during the summer months at Heritage Park and regular farmers’ markets at Lampe Park. Popular regional events include Carson Valley Days, which has a parade, games, a rodeo and great food, and the Valley Cruisers Car Club’s annual classic car show.
For the history lover, the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center has exhibits on the area’s agricultural history. And for the outdoorsman, Gardnerville is just minutes from endless recreation. The clear water of Lake Tahoe invites guests to swim and sunbathe, boat, ski, hike and camp when it’s warm and hit trails in some of the country’s best ski resorts during the winter. To the east lies easy access to hiking and equestrian trails, plus great spots for ATV riders. And nearby Topaz Lake, just 20 minutes south, is another popular place for boating and fishing.
