The equestrian area at Washoe Lake State Park offers trailer parking, water troughs, tie racks for the horses, diverse wildlife and bird watching, views of the Sierra Nevada and a wide range of terrain for the rider. Visitors will find large parking areas for easy horse trailer access, 5,000 acres of riding area and access to miles of trails on public land in the Virginia Range Mountains east of the park. There’s even a trail that leads to Virginia City, about a three-hour ride. Equestrian areas are found at the main area and the north ramp.
Getting There: The park is 10 miles north of Carson City and 15 miles south of Reno. From Carson City take U.S. 395 north to the East Lake Blvd. exit, then drive north on East Lake Blvd. approximately 3.1 miles to the park entrance. From Reno, take U.S. 395 south to the East Lake Blvd. intersection, turn left, and drive south on East Lake Blvd. for 7.1 miles to the park entrance.
