Voted one of the “Top 10” snowmobiling destinations in the world by Super Trax Magazine. Elko is surrounded by pristine forests and meadows, crisscrossed in nearly every direction by numerous trails for snowmobiles. Just south of Elko, the Ruby Mountains feature remote trails into Nevada’s backcountry. The 10,000-acre Lamoille Canyon Scenic Area also offers limited terrain for snowmobiles. Remember, parts of wilderness areas are open to non-motorized travel only.
Getting There: Wild Horse State Recreation Area is located 67 miles north of Elko on State Route 225.
