The French word, roughly translated, means "jewel," making the Bijou Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe perfectly named. The historic little nine-hole course originally opened in 1920 and it's still a popular family outing. Stretching more than 2,000 yards from the longest tees for a par of 32, the Bijou Golf Course is ideally situated in a picturesque mountain meadow. The course, beautifully maintained by the city of South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation Department, opens for the season in April and closes for the winter in October. Spring wildflowers accent the pretty Bijou course, which features well-maintained greens, lovely landscaping and charming views. The short layout rewards accuracy and provides an enjoyable and relaxed golfing experience for the casual player.

Practice facilities at the Bijou Golf Course include a putting green and practice net. The friendly clubhouse features a pro shop where players can stock up on golf accessories, as well as a snack bar for a quick bite after a round. The Bijou course is also the ideal place for those just learning the game. Beginners will benefit from the friendly and relaxed instruction from the club pro. Bijou Golf Course is certainly deserving of its name, as the little course is a true jewel.
