Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic Park is dedicated to the first permanent, non-native settlers in the Las Vegas Valley—a group of Mormon missionaries who built an adobe fort along Las Vegas Creek in 1855. They successfully farmed the area by diverting water from the creek. Today, the park includes a remnant of the original adobe fort, with 12 informational displays. Other portions of the original walls have been reconstructed in their historic location and a modern visitor’s center features more extensive history and an ongoing focus on historic interpretation. The park is located in downtown Las Vegas at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Washington Avenue and is open all year.
