Some mountains are known for their wild side, while others offer a milder experience that the whole family can enjoy. At Alpine Meadows Ski Resort, the best of both worlds combines across 2,400 skiable acres, promising a mountain experience that is just right for everyone.
Alpine was the first ski resort in the nation to add chair lift safety technology for children. Seat backs on certain lifts are equipped with magnets that affix to children wearing Magnestick vests, which automatically deactivate at the deboarding platform. The mountain will also debut two newly introduced grooming machines equipped with cutting-edge technology, a beautifully redesigned outdoor seating area at the base lodge and a Fast Trax ticket purchasing system for members of the Alpine Club.
Following last season's partnership with Squaw Valley, this year the resorts have announced a combined $24 million in capital improvements for the 2012-13 ski season. These improvements include enhanced snowmaking operations, a redesigned ticket office, continued terrain park improvements, and a partnership with Barton and their "Learn to Ride" program. Alpine Meadows' partnership with Squaw Valley allows the continued offering of more than 6,000 acres of legendary skiing and riding accessed via a single lift ticket and interconnecting shuttle. With the recent introduction of a cutting-edge child chairlift safety system and GPS tracking units for kids enrolled in ski school, the resort continues to invest in innovative, industry-leading technologies designed to enhance the guest experience. This season Alpine Meadows plans to debut an entirely new fleet of demo and rental equipment that take advantage of the revolutionary new rocker technologies currently advancing the sport. What differentiates this fleet from others is the "standard" equipment will be on par with most resorts' high end demos. Additionally, the resort has created a totally unique instructional program called Adventure 55 geared exclusively towards baby boomers. The eight week program will take place on Tuesdays with a goal of pairing like-minded individuals looking to meet other active-minded members of their age group who share a passion for exploring the varied terrain found at Alpine Meadows.
The mountain is known as one of the nation’s best, and routinely ranks as one of the nation’s top resorts by SKI Magazine. Idyllically situated in the stunning Tahoe National Forest, the mountain rises just above 1,800 feet to the top of Tahoe’s Sierra Crest from a base elevation of 6,835 feet. Thirteen lifts, including a high-speed detachable six-passenger chair serving the roughly 400 acres of groomed intermediate and expert off-trail terrain in the popular Sherwood Bowl area, two high-speed express quads, three triple and five double chairs and two surface lifts, one of which serves Kids’ Camp participants only, offer access to the mountain’s more than 100 designated runs. One-quarter of the runs are designated for beginners, 40% for intermediate skiers and boarders and 35% reserved for experts. Alpine Meadows also has a terrain park and superpipe. Ski and snowboard instruction is available for both children and adults. Special interest clinics, such as mogul, powder, telemark, high performance, freestyle, early season warm-up, men’s and women’s clinics are also offered. The resort features a ski and snowboard rental shop, repair shop, public lockers for day use, snowshoe rentals, full-service restaurant, bar and lounge, mountainside deli, and more.
Alpine Meadows Ski Resort is located six miles northwest of Tahoe City, 45 miles west of Reno and 200 miles east of San Francisco. Stay-and-ski packages are available at many Reno-Tahoe hotel resorts.
