Pyramid Lake sits on a tribal reservation and regulations for its use do apply. The Pyramid Lake Paiute tribe requires tribal permits for activities on and around the water. These activities include fishing, boating, jet-skiing, kayaking and camping, both overnight and up to the 10-day limit. Other activities may require permits as well. Inquire at the Sutcliffe Ranger Station to learn more.

Permits are available for purchase at several locations, including the Sutcliffe Ranger Station on Lakeview Drive in Sutcliffe, the Crosby Lodge in Reno, Pyramid Lake Fisheries on Star Route in Sutcliffe and the Pyramid Lake Store on Pyramid Highway in Sutcliffe. The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Museum and Visitors Center also sells permits.
