Etched in the Washoe Valley side of the Carson Range, this steep, strenuous trail winds up the Ophir Creek Canyon and ends at its junction with the Tahoe Rim Trail in Tahoe Meadows. Hikers encounter a waterfall, deep ravines and a variety of wildlife.

Distance: 12 miles roundtrip

Elevation: 5,300' to 8,600'

Difficulty: Advanced

Getting There: Drive south of Reno on U.S. 395 into the north end of Washoe Valley then head south on Franktown Rd.
