This sizable pocket of lofty peaks and deep canyons shoulders the southwestern side of Ely. The southernmost Quinn Canyon Range gives way to the Grant Range, where Troy Peak dominates the landscape. The Quinn Canyon Range also houses one the the state's largest populations of bighorn sheep. Farther north is the Currant Mountain Wilderness, which tops out at the 11,513' Currant Mountain. The Troy Peak offers superb views of the entire area. Hikers must follow primitive trails or chart their own routes in this challenging, remote country.
