Just a few blocks from Virginia City’s Historic C Street, visitors will find a unique collection of Comstock artifacts, photos, and memorabilia.
A fun experience for the entire family, the Comstock History Center celebrates Virginia City’s role in the largest silver strike in the country.
When Virginia City was in full swing as the site of the United States’ largest silver strike, the mines depended on a train to haul silver-rich ore to and from nearby Carson City, where it was minted. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad quickly became one of the most famous American Short Line railroads. While there are a variety of railroad museums in Nevada, the Comstock History Center proudly hosts the original #27 V&T Railroad steam locomotive.
The Comstock History Center also houses the Comstock Historic District Commission, dedicated to preserving and promoting the historic gems that qualify all of Virginia City as a National Historic Landmark District.
Hours:
The Comstock History Center Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Offices for the Comstock Historic District Commission are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Admission:
Admission to Virginia City’s Comstock History Center is free, though this enriching cultural center depends on donations.
