Who was John C. Frémont? To some he was a villain. Others see him as a hero and pioneer of Manifest Destiny who opened the West to settlement. Discover the legendary figure and discern his character for yourself by exploring the Nevada State Museum’s sesquicentennial exhibit, Finding Frémont: Pathfinder of the West. Whether your interest is geography and maps, botany, historic firearms, or the fascination of Western exploration, this exhibit offers something for everyone!

Opening Reception
January 29 - 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy refreshments, special music by Carson City Symphony’s Silver Strings quartet, songs by Fremont Elementary School students, and presentations by officials of the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service, key exhibition sponsors.

Frances Humphrey Lecture Series
February 27 - 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
John C. Frémont and the Great Reconnaissance: Defining the American West by Paul Pace.
Discover maps and reports of the well-known explorer John C. Frémont, an officer in the Topographical Corps. During the 1840s, Frémont entered present day Nevada during two important expeditions. Learn about Frémont's navigational methods and the instruments he used during his 1843-44 expedition. Doors open at 6 pm; early arrival recommended.

Frémont Symposium
The museum is hosting a Frémont Symposium with leading scholars from across the country and the world. Enjoy dinner at the Governor’s Mansion with entertainment by Richard Elloyan, award-winning cowboy poet and musician, and Chautauqua presenter Alastair Morley Jaques. Limited registration; fee TBA.
