Carson City - Western Nevada College Art ExhibitAdd to my Trip Planner
Nov 12, 2013 - Jan 24, 2014
The arts are alive at Western Nevada College! Numerous art galleries feature a variety of works at Western Nevada College Carson City campus. Three exhibition spaces are located in the Bristlecone Building, featuring a continually rotating series of shows. The Main Gallery features paintings, sculptures, and other art works. The College Gallery is located on the main floor of the Bristlecone Building and features student and other art works. The Atrium gallery offers a brightly lit open space for art. Additional student galleries include the Harold LaVigne Art Wall in the Aspen Building, and an art wall in the Dini Student Center. All galleries are open to the public with free admission.
The textures and significance of nature and topography are represented in the work of three notable Northern Nevada artists - Jim McCormick, Amelia Currier and Carol Brown - whose art will be on display at the Western Nevada College Carson City Campus November 12 through January 24.
- McCormick presents “All Terrain Vehicles” in the Main Gallery. His collection of mixed media works from 1990 to 2012 is focused on topography and how some of the most barren terrain in Nevada is crisscrossed by grids that assert authority.
- In the College Gallery, Reno artist Amelia Currier’s “Oasis,” is rooted in the Japanese aesthetic tradition known as Wabi-Sabi, the idea that truth and beauty are imperfect, impermanent and incomplete.
- Carson City artist Carolyn Brown fills the Atrium Gallery with a natural theme in her “Carve Wood-Print Color-Cut Paper,” an exhibition of prints and collages based on the Japanese woodblock print tradition of moku-hanga.
The campus building housing its galleries is open to the public Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m and on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
