The National Championship Air Races is the only event of its kind, carrying on the tradition of the Cleveland Air Races of the 1920s, '30s and '40s. In 1964. The event is held every September just north of Reno and has become an institution for northern Nevada and aviation enthusiasts from around the world. The event features six racing classes, a large display of static aircraft and several military and civil flight demonstrations.
The National Championship Air Races are prepared to entertain aviation fans throughout the day. Each year, in between the races, an illustrious group of aerobatic performers is featured in addition to military demonstration teams, providing entertainment all day long. Past military demonstration, teams include the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron – Blue Angels, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.
