Kershaw-Ryan State Park, Cathedral Gorge State Park, Great Basin National Park and Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park

Depart Las Vegas on I-15 North to Hwy. 93 North. Stop at Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge and view the many species of birds and other wildlife. Continue north for a few miles toward Alamo and stop at the Windmill Ridge Restaurant & Lodging to enjoy lunch and scrumptious baked goods. Continue on the scenic Great Basin Highway (Hwy. 93) to the spectacular Cathedral Gorge State Park where you can walk along paths through dramatic clay formations such as the Moon Caves. Drive to the historic mining town of Pioche and visit Boot Hill, the Million Dollar Courthouse and the town museum. Overnight in Pioche.


Drive north on the Great Basin Highway to Hwy. 50 East and into Great Basin National Park. Hike to the Bristlecone Pines, the oldest living organisms on earth. Enjoy a tour through Lehman Caves and marvel at the incredible stalactite and stalagmite formations, then continue on Hwy. 50 West toward Ely. Go on a train ride or take a driving tour around town to view the many murals painted by world-class artists to depict the history of Ely. Overnight in Ely.


Visit the Nevada Northern Railway and the East Ely Railroad Depot Museum. Drive north of Ely to take a private tour of the McGill Drug Store Museum, then head south to Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park, the domed remnants of local history. Continue south to Pioche. Overnight in Pioche.


Order a picnic lunch from one of the local eateries before leaving Pioche. Head south on the Great Basin Highway for a visit to the beautiful Spring Valley State Park and Echo Canyon State Park. Continue on the scenic Great Basin Highway to Kershaw-Ryan State Park where you can hike, play volleyball,
or just relax on the lush grass, before heading back to Las Vegas via Hwy. 93.
