Ryan Sheltra, Vice Chair

Ryan Sheltra is general manager of his family-run Bonanza Casino in Reno, Nev., where he has served in executive positions since 2000. He honed his casino marketing skills working as Director of Casino Marketing at Caesars Tahoe and as president of the Independent Gaming Operators Coalition, where he led more than 70 casinos throughout the state of Nevada in promotion, advocacy and awareness of independent gaming operations.

Sheltra graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 1993 where he earned a bachelor’s of science degree. He trained at the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, Switzerland, where he studied European cuisine, beverage and service. He began his hospitality career as a marketing and public relations intern at Caesars Palace and the Las Vegas Hilton, both in Las Vegas.
In 2009, Sheltra was honored among the “Twenty Under 40,” a recognition by the Reno Gazette-Journal and the Reno-Tahoe Young Professionals Network of the year’s top 20 business professionals younger than 40.

Sheltra has served on the Nevada Commission on Tourism since 2007, recently being unanimously voted in as vice chairman of the commission. He also serves on the boards of Hot August Nights, The Solace Tree, Reno American Little League and Northern Sierra Endurance Training.  He is a trustee of the Great Reno Balloon Race and the Independent Gaming Operators Coalition and was named to former Gov. Jim Gibbons’ 2006 Gaming and Tourism Transition Team.

A native Nevadan, Sheltra lives in Reno with his wife, Kristie, and their two sons, Cole and Jack. Sheltra is an avid skier and endurance athlete, completing six marathons and counting.
