CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) along with Gov. Brian Sandoval today encouraged Nevadans to “Discover Your Nevada” through a summer travel campaign designed to educate residents about the state’s unique treasures and, ultimately, plan a Nevada getaway.

The 2014 campaign aims to boost awareness of Nevada’s statewide treasures through enhancing consumer engagement and asking Nevadans to share their favorite adventures for several popular types of Nevada experiences. Helping spur interest in the state, notable Nevadans — including Gov. Sandoval, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, rock band The Killers and former Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt Bono — will offer their own favorite locations and trips.

“Nevadans know what makes this state so special,” Sandoval said. “Whether it’s a trek through one of our many amazing state parks, an iconic special event or fascinating historical site, those places and experiences are the basis for remarkable Nevada adventures. I invite everyone to share their adventures at and show what makes Nevada such a wonderful place to explore.”

This year’s campaign focuses on travelers and their adventures at a location, rather than the location itself. Nevada fans can share their adventures — a short written piece, photo and/or YouTube video — on

“Travelers today have so many ways to plan and book vacations, including online trip planning,” Krolicki, NCOT chairman, said. “NCOT’s newly updated website is wonderful and easy-to-use and includes a wealth of information about all the awesome adventures to be had in Nevada. One of the best features of this new site is a place where travelers and fans can share their own adventures and make recommendations to others who are planning to book a Nevada visit.”

To enter the contest, visit and click on “Submit Your Adventure.” Submissions can include tales of a memorable visit to a location, reasons why others should consider visiting a favorite place or other insights about the best time to visit a place. The more outrageous and interesting the better!  Submissions are accepted June 18 through July 9.

From July 14 through July 18, people will be able to vote for their favorite adventures from those submitted. The writer of the winning adventure will get a sky-high celebration aboard a hot air balloon. Writers of the top 10 adventures will receive a Nevada adventure-themed swag bag. The top adventures and the noted locations will be showcased on
