CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nearly $1 million in grants to boost tourism to rural Nevada was awarded by the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) this month, announced Nevada Department of  Tourism and Cultural Affairs Director Claudia Vecchio.

Among the funded projects: the Comstock ATV Jamboree, a first-time special event in Dayton; Operation Sierra Storm, a Tahoe-area event geared to meteorologists, who influence visitor travel; and the REMAX World Long Drive Championship in Mesquite.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada Indian leaders are discussing tourism’s roles in economic development and in preserving traditional cultures at the Nevada Tribal Tourism Conference, April 23-25 in Fallon. “Building Sustainability through Tourism” is the theme for the event, now in its fifth year.

PAHRUMP, Nev. — Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki and other officials from the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) recognized the state’s tourism leaders Thursday at the annual VolunTourism Awards ceremony at the 23rd annual Rural Roundup tourism conference. 

“Tourism is Nevada’s No. 1 industry, and our tourism professionals and volunteers are certainly an essential component of Nevada’s world-renowned tourism infrastructure,” Krolicki, NCOT chairman, said. “NCOT greatly appreciates the work of these men and women in promoting Nevada to domestic and international visitors.”

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Members of the Nevada Commission on Tourism unanimously voted for Commissioner Ryan Sheltra to be named vice chairman of the commission, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki announced today.

The commission began its March meeting with the vote, and Sheltra was quickly named to the open vice chair position. He has served on the commission since 2007.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Leaders in the tourism industry gathered at the Nevada State Legislature today to share the message that “Tourism Works for Nevada,” the theme of this year’s Tourism Day, Claudia Vecchio, director of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, announced today.

The day’s theme highlights the fact that tourism is the No. 1 industry in Nevada, accounting for $2.7 billion in state and local tax revenue, or 26 percent of the state’s total tax revenue.

Nevada Commission on Tourism’s annual rural marketing conference to be held April 17-19, 2013 in Pahrump

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The 23rd annual Rural Roundup will be held this year in Pahrump, as tourism leaders gather from across the state to learn about managing online reputations, international tourism markets and more. The conference will be held April 17-19 at the Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Casino.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT) awarded more than $500,000 in marketing grants to promote tourism in rural Nevada at today’s commission meeting, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki announced. In this grant cycle, NCOT funded a project to develop a mobile application for Virginia City as well as efforts to promote the new California Trail Interpretive Center near Elko and the Day Out With Thomas special event at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City, among other requests.
