Henderson, Nevada

Henderson—although quieter and more reserved than Las Vegas, its neon neighbor to the north—still manages to offer visitors an experience they won’t soon forget. The city, situated in Green Valley, got its start during World War II, producing magnesium to supply ammunition and airplane parts for U.S. forces. Today, Henderson is, Nevada’s second largest city.

With close proximity to the Las Vegas Strip, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, Henderson offers a variety of options for entertainment, recreation, shopping and dining. Plus, thanks to the abundance of warm weather and sunshine to be enjoyed in southern, Nevada, visitors can golf any of the eight championship golf courses year-round. And given that we’re talking about such stellar courses as Black Mountain Golf and Country Club and Desert Willow Golf Course, that’s a really good thing. It also means the region can host annual events pretty much every month of the year – and does. They’ve got art and jazz festivals, Shakespeare in the Park, a heritage celebration, races and runs, sporting events, WinterFest and of course, big fun on national holidays. And then there’s the shopping. For a unique, urban outdoor shopping experience, try the District at Green Valley Ranch Resort. And when you’re in desperate need of relaxation after all that shopping, head out to Lake Las Vegas for a deep tissue massage at Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort.

Other must-see attractions in Henderson include the Veteran’s Memorial Wall, the City of Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, the Clark County Heritage Museum and Henderson’s Downtown Art District, where you can peruse galleries and admire city murals. There are gondola adventures, sightseeing tours, and at Ethel M Chocolates and Botanical Cactus Garden you can tour the factory, taste the treats and meander through one of the world’s largest collection of cacti.
