History of Lake Las Vegas

Lake Las Vegas was the grand vision of actor J. Carl Adair back in 1967, who imagined a palatial waterfront retreat in reach of the Las Vegas Strip, but just far enough away to get away. But it wasn’t until 1990 that 3 billion gallons of water were diverted from nearby Lake Mead. Several years and $5 billion later, opulent Lake Las Vegas was born. Throughout the 2010s, more resorts sprang up, as well as the Lake Las Vegas Event Center, cementing Lake Las Vegas, Nevada as the southern Nevada destination loved by vacationers today.

The dam that created Lake Las Vegas contains almost the same amount of dirt as the volume of concrete used to build nearby Hoover Dam, making it a true southern Nevada wonder of its own.

Things To Do In Lake Las Vegas

Golfers swing into action at two distinctive Nicklaus Design championship golf courses, each with lavish clubhouses, full retail shops, impeccable greenways, and fine dining. Reflection Bay Golf Club also boasts a private white sand beach, a floating stage, and multiple yachts. The private SouthShore Country Club routinely makes the lists in Golf Digest and Golfweek for its par-71 swathe of canyons, water features, and generous fairways.

And then there’s the lake itself, where fun on the water abounds. Lake Las Vegas Water Sports rents out stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and electric boats, and also welcomes adventurous visitors to its Cable Park, where wakeboarders and tubers can get pulled by a machine, and water-loving kiddos to its Aqua Park, a huge, floating playground with slides, trampolines, and other fun features.

Meanwhile, the La Contessa offers luxury Lake Las Vegas yacht cruises aboard their 84-foot vessel, complete with two fully stocked bars, which come to life during sunset cruises, mimosa brunch cruises, and other on-the-water events with live DJs, musicians, and catered dining experiences.
