The pinnacle of the Alta Toquima Wilderness in the South Summit, the tallest of the three peaks of Mt. Jefferson and the tallest point in central Nevada. The rugged, isolated terrain offers canyons formed by glaciers, alpine mesas and a variety of vegetation, from grasslands and pines to sagebrush and piñon. The Pine Creek Trail provides a direct route to South Summit.
Distance: 11.2 miles round trip to Mt. Jefferson plateau; 13.6 miles round trip to South Summit
Elevation: 7,900 to 11,941'
Getting There: Located 60 miles north of Tonopah and 50 miles south of Austin. The wilderness area is on the east side of State Route 376.
