A clear indication of Nevada’s distinctive status as a leading outdoor adventure destination is in its quality of outfitters. And with the addition of Cabela’s, which bills itself as the world’s foremost outfitter, it would seem the outdoor possibilities in the Silver State have more than made their mark.
Situated along Interstate 80 near the Nevada-California border in Verdi outside of Reno, the 125,000 square foot megastore is a veritable showroom combining education, entertainment and more outdoor gear than you can imagine. And while its emphasis may be on hunting and fishing, visitors to Cabela’s will also find a fantastic selection of men’s, women’s and children’s casual clothing and footwear, as well as cabin-themed home décor and accessories.
The huge store is home to a restaurant, meeting and banquet facilities, an indoor archery range and more. It’s dominated by a cabin décor, with multiple museum quality displays that feature trophy animals in realistic recreations of their natural habitats, including polar bears, zebras, elephants and more.
With its focus on hunting and fishing, the enormous freshwater aquariums in Cabela’s come as no surprise. Live bait is available, as is just about every piece of fishing equipment or accessory that even the most die-hard fishing fan could need. On the hunting side, outdoorsmen will find archery equipment, dog supplies, optics and electronics, clothing, accessories and shooting gear that includes an impressive gun library with an array of antique, collectible and sporting firearms.
Cabela’s also boasts a vast selection of camping equipment, including food and outdoor cooking supplies, just the ticket for adventurers looking to escape to Nevada’s backcountry. Visitors will also find ATV and off-road vehicle equipment, boating supplies and more.
So whatever your outdoor fancy, whether you’re an avid bow hunter, a weekend fishermen or if you just want to look the part, you’ll find what you need at Nevada’s one and only Cabela’s.
