This burro territory is located 20 miles east of Austin. Located on the northwestern portion of the Toquima Mountain Range, it is believed that these mostly black or brown-black burros first appeared in the 1940s through escape and abandonment from past mining and ranching operations. The average burro stands 44 inches tall.
Getting There: From Austin, take Hwy. 50 east.
