Perhaps the tamest of the three Pete Dye designed courses at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, the Sun Mountain course is a favorite of many simply because of its secluded location. Situated the furthest from the resort’s interior, the course is dictated by the area’s naturally rolling terrain and beautiful desert landscape. The enormous Spring Mountain backdrop is a visual treat all on its own. The rye grass fairways and railroad-tie trimmed bunkers on Sun Mountain are edged with natural vegetation including Joshua trees, wildflowers and yucca, and expansive waste areas separate the course from the outlying desert terrain. Sun Mountain offers a softer challenge than its sibling courses at the Paiute Golf Resort, but with its sweeping slopes and four sets of tees, it’s by no means easy. The 18-hole championship course features more than 7,100 yards from the back tees for a par of 72. The enjoyable experience at the resort continues with the gorgeous, adobe-style clubhouse. Impressive amenities include a long marble-topped bar, separate smoking lounge and banquet rooms with spectacular course and mountain views. The Paiute Golf Resort won a VegasGolfer fairway award for “Best Overall Experience” in 2004. For golfers at all levels, it’s not to be missed.
