A fascinating look at the way Nevada was can be found at the aptly-named The Way it Was Museum in historic Virginia City. The unique museum is an amazing window into the region’s rich Western past, thanks to an abundant selection of rare photos, mining and mineral artifacts, vintage maps, lithographs and more that make up the most complete collection of Comstock memorabilia in the world.
The old photos and vintage costumes showcased at The Way it Was Museum share the manner in which real Comstock miners once lived and worked, while an interesting scale model offers a one-of-a-kind view of the hundreds of miles of underground mine shafts running beneath Virginia City. Another popular exhibit at the Way it Was Museum is the working model and cutaway of an actual silver and gold mine. The museum also features a captivating 16-minute video hosted by Charlie Jones and Merlin Olsen. The duo shares details about life on the famed American frontier.
The staff at the Way it Was Museum is exceptionally well-informed about the museum’s collections and more than happy to explain the many special items on display. Admission to this one-of-a-kind museum is incredibly reasonable at just $2.50. Children are welcome free of charge.
