Classic, vintage and antique radio lovers are sure to find kindred spirits at the Western Historic Radio Museum in Virginia City. From the collections of photos featuring famous radio personalities to the earliest forms of radio and other radio-esque items, including horn and cone speakers and ham radio equipment, the quirky niche museum is a wonder of radio technology and memorabilia.

Visitors to the Western Historic Radio Museum begin their visit on the ground floor of the Parish House, an Italianate-Victorian house that originates from 1876. The nostalgic atmosphere is evident instantly, as the museum does an excellent job of taking visitors on a tour through radio’s intriguing past. The museum’s displays are helpfully arranged in chronological order, beginning with the earliest spark-gap devices up through the “kitsch” radios from the early 1950s. Each display includes a generous scattering of various types of radio-related items, as well as a comprehensive description of both the radio’s history and its technological significance.

The Western Historic Radio Museum boasts an incredible collection of radio equipment and memorabilia that rotates in and out of display, so return visits to the museum will consistently reveal new and interesting relics. It’s a fascinating way to spend an afternoon and a nostalgic look at a simpler time.
