History of Henderson, NV

Located in Clark County, the township of Henderson emerged in the early 1940s and has continued to grow and flourish ever since. What was once (and arguably still is) a hardworking blue-collar community, Henderson NV got its start as a major producer of magnesium —nicknamed the “miracle metal”—which was used to make ammunition and aircraft parts for U.S. forces during World War II, which helped usher our nation to victory.

Digging even deeper into the past, Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area offers 48,438 acres of some of the most significant cultural resources in southern Nevada, with more than 300 rock art panels and over 1,700 individual design elements created by native cultures over a range of eras.

Meanwhile, Clark County Museum gives visitors a chance to wander numerous interactive displays detailing our state’s many waves of inhabitants, as well as an opportunity to explore preserved buildings built as far back as 1912.
