Carson River Fishing

Type: Whitewater Rafting & Kayaking Gentle rapids, dramatic rock formations and irresistible hot springs in the Class II section make the 20-mile east fork of the Carson River a high-desert trip suitable for the whole family. Be sure to check water flows with the U.S. Forest Service before attempting on your own. Other areas of the Carson River near Carson City, Dayton and Fort Churchill offer kayaking and rafting, but again, be sure to scout a route, check with local officials and exercise caution.

Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced, Wilderness Class II, Short Class III section

Getting There: South from Carson on U.S. 395 through Minden on State Route 88 to Markleeville. Launch about 10 miles south of Markleeville.
