Mill Creek Recreation Area
Premier camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing abounds at this northern Nevada high desert oasis, located a quick 30 minute drive south of Battle Mountain, NV. First built in the 1930s as a Civilian Conservation Corps work camp, Mill Creek Recreation Area is now managed by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and offers free campgrounds open to the public year round. In addition to some great free camping, Mill Creek is also one of the best places for wildlife viewing and wildlife photography in northern Nevada.
Situated in the high desert mountains, discover Civilian Conservation Corps history, a lush, creek-side campground, and some of the best birding and fishing in the region—all a quick 30 minutes south of Battle Mountain.
Mill Creek Campground is nestled in a lush-cottonwood studded canyon and offers 11 designated tent sites, each equipped with fire rings, picnic tables, and access to pit toilet restrooms. Mill Creek Campground also accommodates RVs with large pull-through spaces, though no electric-hookups, potable water, or dump stations are provided. Cast a line into Mill Creek for brook and rainbow trout, or keep your camera handy for great horned owls, a handful of haw species, belted kingfishers, woodpeckers, wrens, swallows, sparrows, hummingbirds, and much more.
Hours:
Mill Creek Recreation Area is open year round, though is best enjoyed during the spring, summer, and fall months due to heavy, northern Nevada snowfall.

Mill Creek Recreation Area is managed by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management (BLM), making free public access available to all.
