The main Carson River begins near the town of Genoa when the east and west forks merge. The river ends at the Carson Sink near Fallon.Rainbow trout are stocked annually, but there are natural populations of large- and smallmouth bass, catfish, and bullhead catfish.

The East Carson River originates in the Sierra Nevada Range in California at higher than 10,000 ft in elevation. Rainbow trout and brown trout have been the primary fish stocked since the early 1900’s.
