The Roasting House

Since opening their doors in 2011, The Roasting House has been the first choice for anyone exploring the Comstock in need of a quality pick-me-up. But, this isn’t your average contemporary coffee shop… the history of this establishment stretches way back to 1876, when it was first open as a gun store, and later, The Brass Rail Saloon. Today, instead of slinging beers across the counter, patrons can order their favorite coffee selections over the original, 1870s-era bar counter. The first coffee roaster in Virginia City was Abel Laigneau, who packaged his beans in tins for miners and townsfolk during the 1870s when Virginia City experienced its first real boom. The Roasting House proudly carries on his tradition of packaging freshly roasted coffee in sealed coffee tins for the ultimate souvenir to commemorate your time on the Comstock.

In addition to micro-roasting all of their own coffee in small batches, owners Mandy Manyose and Melanie Troska have introduced a full service espresso and an old fashioned soda fountain where customers are welcome to have a seat and watch the skilled baristas at work! Best yet, the quality at The Roasting House doesn’t stop with freshly brewed coffee. Here, visitors can get their hands on a variety of homemade paninis, waffle sandwiches, ice cream treats, smoothies, or breakfast, which is served all day. Keep an eye out for the Roasting House’s Blackboard Specials, which include things like soup and sandwiches of the day. No matter what you order at The Roasting House, it’s sure to be delicious and freshly prepared!
