Estas ciudades, que entonces se encontraban en el l\u00edmite oriental de la civilizaci\u00f3n estadounidense, fueron la primera parada de los emigrantes. El elefante (literal) en la sala de esta exhibici\u00f3n rinde homenaje a la famosa expresi\u00f3n de la \u00e9poca: \u201cVi al elefante\u201d, que significaba que alguien hab\u00eda ido al oeste y luego hab\u00eda regresado a casa.<\/p>\n\n<p>En las salas siguientes, seguir\u00e1s el r\u00edo Platte a lo largo de las Grandes Llanuras, atravesar\u00e1s el desierto del Lago Salado, entrar\u00e1s en la Gran Cuenca y luego comenzar\u00e1s el tramo m\u00e1s peligroso del viaje: el infame desierto de 40 millas, que hoy se encuentra entre Lovelock y Reno.
