Es dif\u00edcil creer que un lugar as\u00ed pueda seguir funcionando y ofreciendo exactamente los mismos servicios a los viajeros modernos m\u00e1s de 150 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, pero es cierto. Aunque Nevada no se convirti\u00f3 en estado hasta 1864, la regi\u00f3n fue reconocida como Territorio oficial de Nevada en 1861. Durante este tiempo, miles de pioneros fueron llamados al Oeste con la esperanza de lograr su sue\u00f1o americano, ya sea iniciando su propia operaci\u00f3n ganadera o enriqueci\u00e9ndose. Como se puede imaginar, los hoteles y pensiones tuvieron una gran demanda despu\u00e9s de que Nevada se convirti\u00f3 en un Territorio oficial de Nevada y en julio de 1861 el hotel estaba en pleno funcionamiento.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>Otro acontecimiento muy importante estaba ocurriendo justo al final de la calle: se estaba descubriendo uno de los yacimientos de plata m\u00e1s grandes y famosos del pa\u00eds: la veta Comstock. Toda esa operaci\u00f3n ten\u00eda su sede en Virginia City, mientras que la ciudad de Gold Hill estaba a s\u00f3lo una milla al sur. Virginia City y sus alrededores pronto se convirtieron en una de las ciudades m\u00e1s famosas del Oeste, atrayendo a miles y miles de residentes a la regi\u00f3n. El distrito minero de Comstock Lode no s\u00f3lo fue una de las ciudades m\u00e1s legendarias del Oeste, sino que pronto se convirti\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n en una de las ciudades m\u00e1s grandes del Oeste. A mediados de la d\u00e9cada de 1860, la zona contaba con una poblaci\u00f3n de 15.000 habitantes y aument\u00f3 a 25.000 a mediados de la d\u00e9cada de 1870.\u00a0 Como se puede imaginar, no tard\u00f3 mucho en que el Gold Hill Hotel se convirtiera en un lugar muy importante de la zona, atrayendo a visitantes famosos como el propio Mark Twain.<\/p>\n\n<p>A lo largo de los a\u00f1os, Gold Hill vivi\u00f3 momentos buenos y malos. En 1869, la cercana mina Yellow Jacket sufri\u00f3 un incendio a un nivel de 800 pies, matando a 35 mineros y devastando las minas cercanas. El Yellow Jacket estuvo cerrado durante casi una d\u00e9cada, para luego inundarse nuevamente poco despu\u00e9s de su apertura. Fue abandonado y permanece bajo el agua mientras lees esto.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>Con el tiempo, otras minas cercanas se secaron y la mayor\u00eda de los ocupantes de la zona se trasladaron al siguiente gran descubrimiento.
