Set against the pristine backdrop of Lahontan State Recreation Area\, this event celebrates the region’s breathtaking celestial views with guided activities\, expert-led stargazing\, and immersive educational experiences. \n\n\n\nDiscover a whole new side of Lahontan beneath dark skies untouched by light pollution. \n\n\n\nWHAT TO EXPECT\n\n\n\nMore details for the 2026 Cosmos in the Desert will be released soon\, but get excited for guided night sky tours that show off constellations\, planets\, and deep-sky objects. Astronomy talks will also detail the science behind Nevada’s dark skies.  \n\n\n\n\n    \n        \n                            \n                Travel Nevada Pro Tip \n                \n            \n        \n        \n            \n            \n            \n        \n        \n            Lahontan State Recreation Area boasts some of the darkest skies in the region\, making it a prime location for astronomy and astrophotography. The park’s low light pollution allows visitors to spot celestial wonders like the Andromeda Galaxy and the Orion Nebula with the naked eye. \n\n                    \n    \n            \n            \n            \n            \n    \n\n\n\nTo preserve night vision (and enhance the enchanting atmosphere)\, only red light will be used for the event. Flashlights can be converted at check-in. Dogs\, alcohol\, and camping won’t be allowed within the Beach 3 event space during Cosmos in the Desert. Camping can be done elsewhere in Lahontan State Recreation Area\, though.
