DESCRIPTION:Got a serious need for speed? Start your engines for one of the most legendary open road races out there. The Silver State Classic Challenge closes Nevada Highway 318 to the thrill of drivers eager to test their vehicle’s speed capabilities on a 90-mile course full of far-reaching straightaways and technical corners.  \n\n\n\nCertified as the world’s fastest open road race by Guinness World Records\, the Silver State Classic Challenge closes a public highway and sees vehicles of all kinds reach speeds beyond 180 mph. \n\n\n\nAn annual Ely tradition since 1988\, the Silver State Classic Challenge (SSCC) is all about competitive driving measured by speed\, time\, and distance. Speed classes start at 95 mph and go all the way up to 180 mph\, with a record average race speed of 219.64 mph achieved by Robert Allyn and David Bauer in 2017. Expect to see sports cars\, but also everything from pickup trucks to Priuses—if your vehicle can average 95 mph or greater and meet SSCC safety requirements\, you can compete in this race yourself! \n\n\n\nSee all the entrants during Friday’s Parade of Cars or at Saturday’s car show\, both of which take place in Ely. There aren’t any spectator areas to watch the races\, but course volunteers get front-row seats to the action.
