Camels, ostriches and even zebras have made their yearly pilgrimage to Virginia City over the past six decades to be part of the International Camel and Ostrich Races, an hilarious annual Comstock tradition now celebrating 60 years of quirky antics.
This uniquely Nevada event dates back to the 1950s and features jockeys precariously perched on their beasts as they maneuver the track at high speeds, aiming for a win among the cheering audience in the historic, storied mining town of Virginia City.
A comical racing spectacle that the entire family will enjoy, the International Camel and Ostrich Races includes a carnival-like midway with vendors and treats for the whole family.
You can even catch a ride on a camel—a photo-op not to be missed!
New for 2019 is Hot Camel Nights, a special Friday evening performance with all of the fun and laughs of the day races.
Continuing from last year, choose from shaded seating options and a VIP experience that allows you to see the entire racing action. Sunday is Dolan Automotive Family Day with free camel rides for the first 100 kids.
