The historic Spring Mountain Ranch is located near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, beneath the colorful cliffs of the magnificent Wilson Range. The many springs in these mountains provided water for Paiute Indians and later brought mountain men and early settlers to the area. Past owners of the ranch included the millionaire Howard Hughes, Chester Lauck of the radio comedy team “Lum & Abner” and German actress Vera Krupp. Scheduled, guided tours through the ranch house and other historic ranch buildings are available throughout the week. The ranch visitor center is open daily. Park facilities include a tree-shaded picnic area, scenic hiking trails and a cultural events pavilion. Popular activities are picnicking, living history events, hiking and wildlife viewing. Spring Mountain Ranch also hosts Super Summer Theatre, an organization dedicated to bringing high quality productions to the people of Southern Nevada. Shows run in June, July and August with some special productions in September. The park is located 15 miles west of Las Vegas on State Route 159 (Blue Diamond Highway).
