Come Wander into Weird Nevada

Weird Nevada wonders await all over the Silver State. In Downtown Las Vegas alone, you can museum-hop between displays on the world’s most cursed artifacts, atomic bomb tests, murderous mafiosos, and retired neon signs. Within an hour’s drive, you can feast your eyes on a mom-and-pop coffin shop or the world’s rarest fish, swimming in a pool that belches tidal waves when Japan gets an earthquake.

Further afield, you can road trip to an artistic playground where the canvases are cars sticking out of the ground, a full-on “micronation” with anti-walrus laws and its own space force, or a motel filled with more clown art and figurines than you can shake a red foam nose at. If you’re ready to get off the beaten path—and onto a truly offbeat path—there’s no better place than here in what we proudly call Weird Nevada.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term “Ghost ride”. Anyone else used to do that with their bikes? Those were the days, when the biggest worry was “how many bike ramps are we going to build today?” 😂 #FujiFilm #xt2

Lessons from the past 🏔 #mountainstories

The last few weeks have been a time of education, reflection and/or protest for those who’ve wanted to bring a positive change for our society. I love documenting wildlife, nature and space but in the spirit of growth I wanted to share a Nevada trip which led me to this tucked away landmark. It’s a monument created by outsider artist Frank Van Zant which pays tribute to Native Americans and the injustices they’ve faced.

Since 1983 it’s been subject to arson and vandalism - and garners such little attention that that we were the only ones exploring the monument for the time we were there. Yet it still stands - resilient in the face of adversity like the Native Americans it represents.

Another reason I wanted to share this is because while researching the story behind the monument I learned that the artist has since ended his life - a topic of mental health I hold near to me for the friends I’ve lost in the last few years. In a time of uncertainty - take care of yourselves & be open and encourage others to be open as well. Drink water, get rest and exercise your mind and body along with your rights.

It’s also fire season for some of us here in California so be safe out there!
